Second Once in a Lifetime Trip

Heya Mom & Dad,

We finally made it to McMurdo!

We got in yesterday afternoon on a C17 with 40 airmen (new C130 maintenance and flight crew for the summer) and almost as many civilians like us. Packed flight! At least it was only 5 hours or so and they gave us a brown bag lunch. We have to do a bunch of training and it's all scheduled for Monday and Tuesday. Today is Sunday - dateline and all that - and nothing is open on Sundays so we can't even prep our field gear. Sounds like we have a free day to walk around (not too far because, of course, you need training for recreational activities outside of McMurdo). We'll try to setup out at camp by Thursday.

We don't have wifi access in town either (it's not in our activity requirements, or SIP) so I have to go to the computer lab and actually plug my computer in when we're in town. I'll try do to so once a day or so until we get our wifi set up at camp.

I'm noticing some things that are different from the real world that really stand out a second time. Since they don't allow many people on the wifi and they don't allow any phones on the network at all, nobody is constantly on their phones. They actually talk to each other at dinner; what a concept!

Anyways, I'm just waiting out the clock for hot breakfast to start. Hope you're having a good weekend.

Love ya!
Drew
