Hickman Bridge ~ Capitol Reef NP

Can you find my hat?

Hickman Bridge is a 133 foot natural bridge that is a moderately difficult hike, and just under two miles round trip.  A moderate hike, according to the National Park Service, is a mix of steep grades and level sections. It was a beautiful day and a great hike!

The Lodge at Red River Ranch

American Bison have a strong presence in the history of the United States of America in the part of our country commonly referred to as the ol’ west. Their image conjures visions of Native Americans living on the plains and mountains of the west, and cowboys on horseback; they are a symbol of strength and prosperity.

The Red River Ranch has a herd of American Bison, and when we arrived, they were near the front entrance of the drive setting the stage for what was to become our favorite lodging of our Utah adventure.

The Lodge at Red River Ranch is located just west of the Capitol Reef National Park, and provides wonderful accommodations and friendly service. They have a restaurant for breakfast, and will pack you a made to-order lunch for your day out exploring Capitol Reef NP.

Our only regret is that we did not stay longer.

Pioneer Register & the Tanks ~ Capitol Reef NP

On our first day visiting the Capitol Reef National Park we hiked the Pioneer Register trail, and climbed the cliff that led to the Tanks.  The Tanks are pockets along the cliff side that fill with water during the rains, and provided a source of accessible water for this areas early inhabitants.

The elevation here is around 5,400 feet which made for slow going for us sea-level-dwellers but we took our time, and it was a fabulous first hike!

Capitol Reef NP

A sneak peek at our current road trip adventure, Capitol Reef National Park Utah. The scenery has been breathtaking, and the locals and tourists have all been pleasant, in fact we met a gracious couple from New Jersey.  Safe travels Susan and Victor thank you for sharing your kindness with us.

Oh and there was snow on the ground when we woke this morning.  More on that story later.

Until then safe travels near or far.

Distracted

I am...
Distracted by work.
Distracted by sunshine,
and the amount of snow we received in April.
Distracted with how fast the snow melted,
and the smell of the May rains.
Distracted by white fluffy clouds.
Distracted by my past, and thoughts of my future.

These distractions have kept me from this space.

Currently I am focusing more on living.
Each day.
Making peace with my past.
Planning for my future.

A pleasant way to start another summer I suppose.

How about you, what distractions have occupied your days?
