Special

I am not special to this world.

I can hear you saying ‘no that is not true - you are special’!

And yet…

This world is enormous and filled with billions of people, where original thought happens in one single instant simultaneously in multiple locations around the globe. I might even go as far to say that we share similar life familiarities with others, where there might only be a few differences in our life experiences that make us slightly unique from another person. Our stories are all similar. We are all partaking in the same human experience, just our view out the window is different. We are all alike and therefore, as I see it, I am not special to this world.

And yet…

I am special to my family and those that love me!

Embrace those that you love, and the unique love that you have for each other. Share the love with those you love. Today. Tomorrow. Always.

Spirit Houses

Just down the road, on the out skirts of Cantwell Alaska, you will find the local cemetery. It might not be what you would expect, with the yellow, blue, and white spirit houses resting quietly on the hill.

If you want to read more about Alaska Native spirit houses check out this article from NPR, In Alaskan Cemetery, Native and Orthodox Rites Mix.

This is the quote that speaks loudest to me, "But when we converted to Orthodoxy, the church forbid us from cremating human remains," he says. "And as a result, we constructed these spirit houses, where the spirits would have a place to go — and not bother the living until they made that final journey."

Maps of Alaska

If  you enjoy maps as much as we do, and you are in Fairbanks, make a trip up to the University and stop by the GeoData Center & Map Office at the Geophysical Institute.

Maps rule!

Falls Closure

As  fall is coming to a close, I must ask... are you ready for winter?  Me neither. If you live where there is an Indian summer, enjoy the extra days of fall for me.

Rivers Edge Resort & Cottages

Looking for a place to stay while you are on your summer vacation to Fairbanks Alaska? Check out the cute cottages at Rivers Edge Resort.  They are close to the airport, close to town and have a private spot on the river for that quiet out of town feel.

We  had a great night visiting with our people, then in the morning we left the welcoming warm friendly Fairbanks town, where we feel appreciated and loved to head back home to Anchor-Town (this town is growing on us but it will never be Fairbanks).

May all your visits with your people make you feel warm and toasty inside.

Silver Gulch

If  you are looking for a great supper while in Fairbanks, drive up to Fox and have an enjoyable meal at Silver Gulch.  This place is steeped in history from the gold rush days of Alaska, and has been reborn into a flourishing eatery and brewery.

Sam's Sourdough Cafe

If you are looking for a good greasy spoon for breakfast while you are in Fairbanks, stop on by Sam's Sourdough Cafe (known locally as Sourdough Sams).

We  also met up with our dear friend Mac, who has recently returned to town after serving for our country.  She is back in Fairbanks for a few months as she formulates the plan and makes that next step in life.  We are proud of all you have accomplished so far and see great things in your future.  We love you.
