Summer Cabin Project ~ House Wrap

 Now my brother is here...

 Now I make him disappear!

So what would you do with a large cardboard tube?  Make elephant calls into it?  Yup us too!

We are wondering if Brett a.k.a. Bear would have an overwhelming desire to shop at Lowes. What do you think?

Summer Cabin Project ~ Chimney

A secondary source of heat is a must in the great northland, as power outages can be frequent in the winter time. The cabin’s main heat source is a Toyostove Oil Miser which needs electrical power to run so the secondary heat source will be a wood stove. The chimney was the last thing to install on the roof, once that was done we were able to take off the cabin’s wing and the catwalk. At first the cabin looked a little naked without its wings but the finished roof look grows on you.

Next up ~ house wrap! It is like wrapping a giant present, only harder, and you have to use staples and the wind can grab the wrapping and blow you over.  Good times!

Summer Cabin Project ~ Electrical

In anticipation that the power ditch would be finished soon and we would have power to the cabin, we started to plan the electrical layout. This was another big part of the job and takes a lot of planning to use the least amount of wire for the maximum lighting and electrical benefit. Good thing we have great minds all working together and a great project foreman!

Oh yeah we have a fuel tank on a stand too. One more thing off the to-do list.

 Nice deck!

Happy Monday! See you tomorrow for more summer cabin project progress!

Summer Cabin Project ~ Power Ditch

The power might be on our property but it does not do any good unless you dig a ditch to the house for the direct bury power cable. It was hard work but our giant Bear made it look so easy that we will never know the truth of all the back breaking labor that went into it. A job worth being proud of completing!

 Admiring their handy work!

Progress at times seemed slower than traveling the Oregon Trail but I must admit that when I look back at the photos and see all the progress we made I am amazed!

I hope you are enjoying our summer project re-cap.  There are a few more sets of photos and progress to come.

Happy Thursday!

Summer Cabin Project ~ Soffits & Deck

For the soffits we cut strips of 1x12 planking into a manageable size, painted them, and installed them on top of a layer of metal screening. The screening is to keep bees from making nests in the soffits and is the first layer of defense against the local squirrels, a.k.a. pesky rats, from getting up into the roof and messing up the insulation.

While the young’ins were installing the soffit pieces we worked on the walkway and decking. It is so nice to have a firm place to walk as the quarter inch plywood was starting to give way in spots and slowing down progress.
