Greetings dearest friends & family,
Ebenezer knocked at our door yesterday, bearing his version of tidings for the season. His sour scowl prickled across the room, like icicles chattering among the spruce tree branches in the winter wind. We could see his haggard shoulders carted a burden heavier than the layer of snow that accumulated on his ancient gray overcoat. As he stepped across the threshold the snow began to melt, its slow trek down his sleeves found their way to the floor with a quiet plop of resignation. The snow was no longer something that brought children delight, becoming instead a puddling mess, someone must now clean up.
Before long we were sharing the afternoon together, enjoying steaming peppermint tea, and peanut butter cookies. After our third cookie, and a few exchanges of laughter, a smile crinkled across the corners of his scraggly unshaven cheeks. A twinkle of light shown through winter’s darkening shadows. Our greatest gift, the truest kindness of the season, is time shared among those that need more than a passing hello. Farewell Ebenezer, until next time, thank you for your company.
Sending all our love and good tidings to you and yours this season, and on into the next year.
