While We Are Away
While we are away for some much needed rest, relaxation, and exploring the wonders on the other side of our planet, please remember to drink plenty of water, get enough rest, and pick up after yourself. See you back here in April with plenty of travel photos and adventure stories.

Standing Guard
Our mighty trees standing guard through the long winter. They will soon be rewarded with new growth and sunlight. Thank you mighty trees for adding texture and color to our winter walks. Also for providing a place for other organisms to call home.

Family Day at the Museum of the North
Photo from the Museum of the North web site |
The University of Alaska Museum of the North will hold a Family Day exploring film and photography on Saturday, March 4, from noon to 4 p.m. There will be examples of historical films on display, as well as a portrait gallery, scavenger hunt and other activities. There is no admission fee for children 14 and under at Family Days, thanks to support from TOTE Maritime.
The museum is also exploring film and photography at hands-on programs all month. Families are invited to drop in with children 5 and under at Early Explorers each Friday from 10 a.m.-noon. Junior Curators, for kids 6 and up, meets Saturday, March 11, from 2-4 p.m. A newer program, Teen Studio, on Saturday, March 25, offers an opportunity for young adults ages 13-18 to try light painting.
For more information, call 907-474-7505 or visit the museum online at www.uaf.edu/museum.

I Am
I am a kind and compassionate person. I am caring and easily wounded. I do not need to 'suck it up' nor do I need to 'put on my big boy pants' or 'grow a thicker skin'. I need to be who I am, large of heart and caring. I need to continue to be compassionate towards others and myself. I need to continue to disagree with those that believe stern harsh words, spoken in a loud angry voice, are the only way to deliver their message. When in fact their way is the least desirable method in the land of the enlightened 21st century.
In the three years that I have been employed at UAA, I have been publicly bullied and verbally abused. Unbelievably UAA has treated me with more disrespect than my ten years in aviation combined, and let me tell you Marty Hall is no saint.
Today starts my fourth year and I will continue to be kindhearted toward others and myself all the while standing my ground for honesty in my daily work.
Let good manners and polite society rules win in the 21st century and beyond. Long live the Duck Dodgers.
