Campfire Mac & Cheese

Preparation is the longest part of campfire mac & cheese. 
Fry bacon or sausage set aside to drain off the fat.
While the noodles are on the stove to boil cut up some onion and garlic then add frozen corn, peas and what ever else you want in your mac & cheese. For spices we use parsley, oregano and chili powder.

 

Mix the cooked noodles in with the other ingredients.


Add this to small disposable cooking pans that have
 been lined with foil.



Bring the milk and cheese to a simmer and creamy goodness stage.


Pour cheese sauce over the noodle mix and give each pan a stir. 



Cover each pan with a layer of foil. Rolling the edges for a nice seal.


Now they are ready for transport to the property and will be cooked later that evening for supper after a good days work.


Build a fire.  We prefer to build large fires especially since there is plenty of old wood and brush at the property that needs to be cleared and burned. I built this nice six foot diameter fire pit!


Spread out the coals so that one side of the fire is just level coals.  Put the mac & cheese directly on the leveled coal and leave there for 15 to 20 minutes or until the cheese sauce boils out the corners of the pan.  


Each of us had out own mac & cheese dish to eat from ~ less mess than having to serve up plates full and this way each person got their fair share!  When everyone has been working hard and is super hungry this is a must.



Sit back ~ relax ~ and enjoy your very own pan of hot ~ and I mean hot ~ mac & cheese campfire style!
