Word of the Day ~ Dogsbody

dogsbody

PRONUNCIATION:
(DOGZ-bod-ee)

MEANING:
noun: A menial worker; drudge.

ETYMOLOGY:
In the British navy, dogsbody was the term sailors used for the unpalatable food given to them, boiled peas (officially known as pease pudding) and biscuits soaked in water. With time the term began to be applied to low-ranked sailors and eventually to anyone who is forced to do menial jobs that no one else wants to do. Why a dog? Probably from the general poor reputation of a dog, as evident in terms such as a dog's life and a dog's chance. Earliest documented use: 1818.
A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:
Whenever a man has cast a longing eye on offices, a rottenness begins in his conduct. -Thomas Jefferson, third US president, architect and author (1743-1826)

Worry ~vs~ Compassion

It is a fine balance between worrying for someone overly and having the right amount of compassion for that persons well being.

Some times the other person might think that you are worrying about them when in truth you carry just the right amount of compassion.

However it can be easy to turn compassion into worry which does you not a lick of good. Keeping worry in check is an art form some might say and I have at times in my life made myself sick with worry.  Which is not very pretty in any form.

Carry compassions and ditch the worry!

Say What?

What I wanted to say.

What I thought I said.
And what actually came out of my mouth
do not always sound the same in your ears.

Even the most carefully chosen words have a way
of being misinterpreted and misunderstood.

The gift of silence is not one that I own
but one that I am always in search of and
hope one day to find and have for
my very own.

Things to Remember

Your Home:
  • Clean and everything will look and feel better
  • Wait a few days on every decision but DON'T change your mind once you've made it. You will never get anywhere doing that
  • A small change such as flowers, or a new plant will makes a big difference, and cost very little.
  • Don't try to copy anyone else's style, work with what your gut it telling you, or you won't like it down the road.
  • Order in your life helps you keeps your sanity.
  • Less toys, furniture, clothing, and stuff is always better.. Keep a SIMPLE house, get rid of stuff constantly. Or better yet, don't buy it!

Personal:
  • Exercise clears your mind, regulates your appetite and helps you sleep better and look better. Do it.
  • Sugar does the opposite.
  • Don't compare yourself with others.
  • Live within your means, people should always come first, not money. Always have a comfortable stash of money. Do not purchase stuff beyond your financial limits. The stuff will never make you feel better than having a financial cushion does.
  • Your children need you to be happy, secure, calm and unstressed. Not popular, skinny, well-dressed and rich. Don't be tempted by the status quo.
  • MYOB (mind your own business) if you get so involved in friend's relatives problems, you use energy thinking about/judging something you can't change. Spend your mental energy elsewhere.
  • Extended family is important but to much closeness is sometimes overplayed. Do what's best for YOUR immediate family. Don't be pressured. Stick together.
  • Always have a good book to read.
  • Always plan ahead for birthdays and Christmas so you can enjoy them.
  • Remember that you are a much better person when your calendar is empty.
School:
  • The kids will grow up smart and literate...NO school is perfect and the little things probably don't really matter. Don't get caught up in them. Look at the big picture.
  • Support the kids school. Do NOT talk bad or criticize the school or teachers in front of the kids...look at hurdles and hardships with teacher's/friends as excellent learning experiences for them.
  • DO NOT sign up for more than ONE thing in a school year
Family:
  • Keep a routine, especially in the morning and on weekends.
  • To change child's behavior use HUGS, KISSES, COMPLIMENTS it makes them feel good about the RIGHT behavior. Give extra attention, slow down, play with them.
  • Go out with the husband/wife at least every other weekend.
  • Take time one-on-one with the kids.
  • Have confidence that you are doing it right.
*******
This list is from Clover Lane and modified just a bit to better suit our home! It is a good list of things to remember in your life and for your family.

Happy Birthday CJ

Must have been lima beans for supper!
Huggy liked lima beans!

We have shared an amazing friendship that has lasted through the years.  Filled with laughter, joy and a few tears in between, the only thing I would change is the fact that we live too far apart.  Someday soon I hope the miles that separate us will be few and short.

Happy Birthday to my dear friend CJ!
